Welcome to the SilkPixie website!

Silk Pixie is the crafting side of JL Fairs, a cottage industry of the 21st century with one foot firmly in the past, using age-old techniques I create a range of silk-ware items in Shantung, Bourette, Dupion and Tussah silks.

Through this site I take the long journey down the Silk Road to China, where for centuries sericulture was a close secret; to exchange gems and Italian glass beads for this gossamer thread before joining the ancient mariners to explore the seven seas, and returning to England to mix with migrants and artisans ... passing through history from the Roman Empire, the Dark Ages, the Middle Ages, the flamboyant courts of Elizabeth I, Victoria's court in mourning, the Art Deco Years right up to the present day, in cyber space.

Items are worked in lace and freestyle embroidery techniques and insights of my working techniques, together with histories, folklore and gem information, this site is designed to inform and inspire.
