Known as "Samonios" ( Seed Fall ) to the Celts, and the eighth month of the Roman calendar, in the northern hemisphere the nights draw in and it is a time to reflect on the summer and plan for the winter.

Halloween is celebrated, the day before All Saints Day.

Most people know that the gemstone of the month is opal and also the multi coloured tourmaline, opal is renowned for it's colourplay and also considered unlucky. It is also well known that the zodiac sign is Libra the Scales (23rd September - 22nd October), the planet of Libra is Venus, the element air and the colour blue, echoed in the Pantone^® colour for October as Cerulean.
