February Flowers

Every month has it's flower and we hope to be able to produce each of them in silk, bead or felt before long.

Violet and primrose are the flowers of February, both have been used for centuries in medicine and are a harbinger of Spring.

The violet matches the colour of February's stone, amethyst, while the pastel tones of the wild primrose are now cultivated in a range of vibrant colours.

Violets were used in the Victorian era to portray love and affection, possibly encouraged by Valentine's Day, Purple for love, loyalty and devotion, White for purity, innocence and humility, yellow for lightheartedness and happiness. Also associated with the Greek Goddess Aphrodite and the Roman Goddess Venus.

The primrose is a sign of new beginnings, as one of the first flowers to bloom in Spring, a symbol of new beginnings and rejuvination, sometimes believed to protect against evil spirits and bring good luck.
