Aragonite
Aragonite is a slowly formed mineral which is created in sedimentary rocks, it was discovered in Aragon in Spain but is commonplace around the world.
Impurities cause a colour range of yellows, blues, pinks and greens.
Many sea creatures secrete aragonite to form their shells and it is layers of aragonite, combined with conchiolin which form nacre, the base of pearl and mother of pearl.
Most often carved into beads or cabochon.
Found in sedimentary locations and porous rocks in various locations including Cumbria, England.
