Grandidierite
Grandidierite was discovered in Madagascar in 1902, and named after the French Explorer Alfred Grandidier, who studied the island.
The rough crystal is reminiscent of stalks of glacé angellica. The intensity of the green increases with higher contents of iron.
A rare stone, so far only found in Madagascar and Sri Lanka and not well known, apparently difficult to cut due to it's perfect cleavage,
otherwise it would be a perfect stone for jewellery/jewelry, the beautiful translucent green/blue colouring, the hardness.
There are cabochon and faceted stones available. [November 2023].
