Haematite is known as "kidney ore"
 due to its formation.

Hæmatite

If cut thinly haematite appears to be red, from its high iron oxide content (70%). For this reason it is known as "bloodstone" in Germany. It gets its name from ancient Greek hæma (blood) Red ochre is another form of haematite (also spelt as hematite).

Said to enhance mental and manual dexterity, creates peaceful loving and kind relationships. Helps concentration and confidence with positive attitudes towards life, wealth and well-being.

Synthetic (manmade) haematite is called haematine/hematine and is more common and readily available than the natural stone.
